| The WAGES Foster Grandparents
Program provides volunteer opportunities for income eligible people 60
years of age and older. Foster Grandparents serve special and
exceptional needs children from birth to 21 years old. They serve as
tutors, mentors and caregivers in at schools, institutions and in private
homes.
Foster Grandparents also serve:
- Children with physical, mental and emotional
disabilities
- Children who are abused and/or neglected
- HIV babies
- Children with learning disabilities
- Teenage parents
The WAGES Foster Grandparents program operates 10
volunteer stations throughout Wayne County.
Benefits of becoming a Foster Grandparent include:
- Volunteering 20 hrs. per week (Mon. - Fri.)
- An hourly stipend
- Transportation allowance
- Annual physical examinations
- Accident/liability insurance
- Monthly in-service trainings
- Cultural outings
- Ongoing recognitions
