Frequently Asked Questions

WAGES Community Action. Helping People. Changing Lives.

Celebrating 40 years of service to Wayne County!

WAGES first opened in 1966 in an old house located near the corner of Ash and William Streets in Goldsboro, NC. The agency operated four Head Start classrooms downstairs and had offices upstairs. WAGES was established to help Wayne County combat poverty.

After about a year, WAGES moved to the Virginia Street School in Goldsboro, NC. In addition to expanding Head Start classes, WAGES housed the offices of the Neighborhood Youth Corps which gave work opportunities to high school juniors and seniors. WAGES then developed Neighborhood Service Centers in the towns of Goldsboro, Mount Olive, and Fremont.

Since then, WAGES has evolved into an agency with facilities serving families throughout Wayne County. WAGES is proud to be Wayne County's Community Action Agency for the past 40 years and plans to continue to make a difference in the community for the next 40 years!
